As the regular season comes to a close, we sat down with sophomore Annabelle Utz, our attacking mid, for a brief, yet informative interview.
So Annabelle, playing on a team that’s loaded with D-1 level talent, how do you find your role and what steps can you take to become a leader on your team in the future?
“Playing on a team full of such good talent can be intimidating at times, but I feel the best way to find my role is to just be myself when I am playing and use my style of play to connect with the talented players on the team. Also another way to find my role and be a leader is being unselfish when I play to build trust with my teammates and show that putting the team first is better than putting yourself first.”
The team has a lot of returning talent and was a favorite to win the 6A championship. What are the team’s biggest strengths this season?
“One of the biggest things that I feel separates our team from the others is our team’s technical ability.”
How is the team approaching the goal of winning back-to-back championships?
“Our team is approaching this goal by treating every game as a ‘State Championship’ game to prepare ourselves for what’s to come.”
Do you have aspirations of playing soccer in college? If so, what are your top 5 schools that you would like to attend/play for and why?
“Yes! My goal is to play in college and I would like to go to a school on the east coast if possible but some of my favorite colleges as of right now are Coastal Carolina, South Florida, and a dream school would be South Carolina.”
