We had a chance to sit down with Ella to discuss sports.
Q: With Track and Field, what events do you compete in, and how did you choose those particular events?
Ella: I compete in several events and relays, but my main focus is the 400m dash, the 4×400 relay, and the high jump. I was actually thrown into high jump back in middle school, and it quickly became something I really enjoyed and got pretty good at. As for the 400m, I didn’t initially choose it myself, but I’m so grateful my coaches encouraged me to run it. I’ve seen a lot of improvement, and I’m excited to keep working on cutting down my times.
Q: How do you train to improve your speed, endurance, and running technique knowing that Track training help in Basketball as well?
Ella: My dad has played a huge role in my training and motivation. We’ve spent countless hours at the track, breaking down every detail of my races from each step leading up to my jump to my running form. The attention to detail has really helped improve my technique in both field and running events. When it comes to endurance, it’s more than just running laps around the track; we also incorporate interval training, strength workouts, and cross training to build overall fitness. This helps me have be wind on the basketball court as well.
Q: What’s been your proudest moment or biggest accomplishment in track and field so far?
Ella: Ideally, placing second at state for high jump during my freshman year would be my proudest moment, but honestly, track didn’t mean much to me back then. This past season really showed me how much I love the sport. My proudest moment now is making it to state with the 4×400 relay team. Even though things didn’t go exactly as we hoped, it was incredible to compete on that stage with some of the best athletes in the state. That experience has only fueled my motivation to work harder this year and aim for a podium finish. I’m really excited about what our team can accomplish.
Q: How do you stay motivated during tough practices regardless of which sport it is?
Ella: When things get tough, I remind myself of the hard work I’ve put in and the goals I’ve set. I stay focused on the process and trust that the effort will pay off. Having a strong support system, including my teammates and coaches, also keeps me motivated. We push each other to be our best, and that camaraderie makes all the difference.
Ella Cowan’s dedication to both track and field and basketball showcases her exceptional athleticism and work ethic. Her achievements in these sports are a testament to her commitment and passion for athletics.
